STAC Sweeps ECC Men's Volleyball Match from American International, 3-0

Springfield, Mass. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team headed back out on the road Saturday, visiting American International College for an afternoon ECC tilt at the Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. STAC completed a three-set sweep of the Yellow Jackets to pick up an all important conference victory as the teams prepare for the stretch run with the postseason almost in sight.

St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 5-11 overall and 2-1 in ECC play, while AIC slips to 1-12 and 0-2.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 39 kills compared to AIC's 29. The Spartans also had a 11.5 blocks and 39 assists, while the Yellow Jackets tallied 5 blocks and 28 assists.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas outhit Monroe by a .284 to .087 margin for the match.
  • Kyran Versteegen (Sittard, Netherlands) paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 20 kills on Saturday. He also registered five digs and two block assists.
  • Joaquin La Jara (Lima, Peru) tallied 32 serve assists (10.7 assists/set). La Jara also accumulated five digs for the maroon and gold.
  • Gabriel Vieira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) recorded 12 kills, along with two digs a six block assists.
  • Thomas Santos (Miami, Fla.) tallied a team-high 10 digs on the day.
  • David Weiss (Oyten, Germany) picked up two kills, a service ace, four digs and four block assists.  
  • Nicholas Santos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied two kills, eight digs and four block assists for STAC.
