Men's Volleyball Falls to Sacred Heart in Tightly Contested Road Match

Fairfield, Conn. - Despite picking up a set victory for the second straight match, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team was sent down in defeat by Sacred Heart University, 3-1, in a tightly contested bout on Wednesday evening at the William H. Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center.

STAC slips to 0-7 on the year, while Sacred Heart picks up its first victory of the season and improves to 1-6.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 54 kills compared to Sacred Heart's 47. The Spartans also had a two blocks and 50 assists, while the Pioneers tallied 12 blocks and 42 assists.
  • Gabriel Vieira (OH/OPP) paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 18 kills on Wednesday. He also registered four digs.
  • Andre Cippiciani (OH/OPP) and Fernando Juarez (L) recorded a match-high seven digs apiece in the match. Cippiciani also had seven kills and one service ace.
  • Kyran Versteegen (S) tallied 35 serve assists (8.75 assists/set), ten kills and four digs for the maroon and gold.
  • Nicholas Santos (OH/OPP) racked up nine kills and six digs for the Spartans.
  • James Feuchtgruber (MB) picked up four kills, two service aces, a dig and a solo block. He also had a team-best .429 hitting percentage.
