Spartans Score 3-0 Sweep of Kentucky State

Hillburn, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team wrapped up its short six-match term at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community Center (Torne Valley) on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of Kentucky State University.

STAC improves to 6-12 on the season, while Kentucky State falls to 5-14 following its three-match tour of New York.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 32 kills compared to Kentucky State's 19. The Spartans also had a 5 blocks and 31 assists, while the Thorobreds tallied 9 blocks and 18 assists.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas outhit Kentucky State by a .141 to -.025 margin for the match.
  • Kyran Versteegen paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 15 kills on Saturday. He also registered a service ace, a dig and two solo blocks.
  • Joaquin La Jara tallied 27 serve assists (9.0 assists/set). La Jara also accumulated one kill, six digs and a block assist for the maroon and gold.
  • Gabriel Vieira recorded four kills and two service aces, along with seven digs and a solo block.
  • Andre Cippiciani tallied five kills and three digs on the day.
  • David Weiss picked up three kills and three digs.
