
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost both games to Bridgeport, 5-4 and 10-4. In game one, Bridgeport's early runs were enough to hold off STAC. Samantha McDonald went 4-for-8 with a run and Julie Sosnicki went 3-for-7 with a run. Sosnicki and Kim Nowak each had a loss on the mound.
Sosnicki opened game one with a solo homer run. RBI singles from Jamie McCormick and Lauren Navarro gave STAC a 3-2 lead in the top of the 2nd. Bridgeport regained the lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and held on for the win.
In game two, Toni Ann Groth had an RBI single to give STAC a 2-1 lead in the top of the 2nd. Nikolette Nevola's sac fly in the 3rd, scored Katie Meyers and the Lady Spartans went ahead 3-1. However, strong hitting by the Purple Knights piled on 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, 4th and 5th and a 3 run 6th to ensure the victory.
STAC will travel to Queens on Thursday.
