Spartans Finish Season Falling to Purple Knights

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team concluded its season at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon.  STAC fell 6-1 in the opening game and 9-5 in game two.  Erin McCarthy hit an RBI double in game one to give STAC its lone run in the 7th.  

In game one, the Purple Knights used a 5-run 2nd to get ahead of the Spartans.  The Spartans scored late in the game after Brittany Malloy singled with two outs in the top of the 7th.  mcCarthy drove her home but the Spartan rally ended there.  

In the second game of the day, the Spartans got on the score board first as Samantha McDonald scored on a wild pitch.  McDonald went 2-for-4 and scored 3 runs for the Spartans.  In the 3rd inning BrittanyMalloy reached on a fielder's choice scoring McDonald for the Spartans to take a 2-0 lead. 

The Purple Knights put up nine runs over the next three innings.  The Spartans rallied in the 7th inning but fell short adding just three runs.  McCarthy had a bases loaded RBI walk and Nicole Guzzone hit a 2 RBI single.  

The Spartans finish up the season with a record of 11-30 and will graduate just one senior.
