Spartans Pick Up ECC Win Over Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Queens College, 12-9 in the first ECC game of the 2015 season.  Samantha McDonald went 3-for-4 with 3 runs and an RBI for STAC while Brittany Malloy went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, including a homerun in the 3rd. McDonald got the Spartans on the scoreboard early with a lead off home run in the first inning.

The Spartans used an 8 run 5th inning highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Nicolette Nevola to come from behind and win the game.  The Knights held a 7-2 lead going into the botton of the 4th as STAC chipped away at their lead with a 2-RBI double from Erin McCarthy scoring McDonald and Malloy.

Nevola's bases loaded double in the 5th brought the Spartans within one with only one out.  After a single from Malloy, McCarthy drew a based loaded walk to tie the game.  Julie Sosnicki singled to score what ended up being the game winning run.  Sosnicki also earned the win on the mound pitching 3.2 innings and striking out 3.

Game two of the day was called due to darkness in the 2nd inning as STAC was trailing 2-0.  The Spartans will host Nyack tomorrow afternoon.
