Spartans Pick Up A Pair of Wins Over Lions

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Dowling College, 7-1 & 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. Samantha McDonald was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in game one a hit a 2-run home run in game two. Erin McCarthy was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Julie Sosnicki earned the win on the mound with 5 strike outs while going 2-for-1 with 2 RBI.  

STAC used a 5-run 3rd inning to control the game as McDonald, Malloy and Pagnani each had RBI singles.  Kim Nowak and Sosnicki each reached on a fielder's choice  driving two runs in for STAC.  

In the second game of the day, Brittany Mangan's RBI sac fly scored McCarthy to tie the game at 1-up in the top of the 5th.  The Lion's were back on top at the end of the inning adding a run off an RBI single from Malia Nelson.  Colleen Pagnani walked to lead off the 6th and McDonald homered in the next at bat to give STAC a 3-2 lead.   McCarthy added an RBI single to extend STAC's lead to 4-2.  The Lions added a run in the bottom of the 6th but the Spartans held on for the win.  Malloy picked up the win on the mound.

STAC will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to LIU Post.
