Kelcy McGeehan's Grand Slam Lifts Spartans Over Franklin Pierce, 8-4

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Franklin Pierce, 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon.  STAC fell 3-1 to Southern Connecticut in game two. 

Kelcy McGeehan's grand slam in the 6th inning, broke open a 4-4 tie to give STAC an 8-4 lead.  The inning started with singles from Samantha McDonald and Monica Tran.  Brittany Malloy walked to load the bases and set the stage for McGeehan's homer with two outs.  

Malloy started the Spartans off with an RBI single in the 1st inning and added a run in the 4th. Malloy and McGeehan each had RBI singles in the 5th to even things up at 4-4.  Malloy finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs for the game while McGeehan went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and a run.  

Briana Keaveney earned her third win for the Spartans recording five strike outs in four innings. The Spartans had 15 hits to the Ravens 8.  

In the second game of the day, STAC fell 3-1 to Southern Connecticut.  Alyssa Chelak had an RBI double to score McDonald.  McDonald went 2-for-4 with a run for the game.  Julie Sosnicki took the loss on the mound, striking out five batters in six innings.  

The Spartans complete their Florida Spring Break trip, 4-6 getting off to their strongest start in recent years.  STAC will return to action on Sunday when they host Dominican College at noon and 2:00 p.m.
