Spartans Open Florida Trip with Games against SNHU and Slippery Rock

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team opened their Spring Break trip in Clermont, FL. with games against SNHU and Slippery Rock University.  The Spartans lost the first game 3-0 and dropped the second game 4-1. 

In the first game, the Spartans had four hits leaving five stranded.  The Penmen opened the game with back to back doubles by Mo Hannan and Lindsey Bolduc; scoring Hannan to take a 1-0 lead.  SNHU added runs in the 5th and 6th innings to round out the scoring for the day.  

The Spartans had their opportunities in the 2nd and 6th innings.  In the 2nd inning, Caitlyn Francoeur and Nikolette Nevola each led off with singles but were left stranded.  Samantha McDonald and Cyan Scarduzio added singles in the 6th.  Colleen Borum took the loss on the mound, striking out five batters in her first game as a Spartan.

In the second game of the day, the Spartans scored a run in the 6th inning after Caitlyn Francoeur led off with a double to left center.  Two batters later, Amanda Leone singled to center field scoring Francoeur.  Kelcy Geehan went 3-for-3 for the Spartans who left six stranded.  Julie Sosnicki had one strike out in the loss.  

STAC will play Nova Southeastern and Minn. St. Moorhead on Sunday afternoon.
