Spartans Split with 8-3 Win Over Golden Lions

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Dowling College on Thursday winning the first game, 8-3 before falling 4-0 in game two.  

In game one, the Spartans had 10 hits to Dowlings 5.  Samantah McDonald's RBI single in the 3rd, scored Alyssa Chelak to give STAC a 1-0 lead.  The Spartans added two runs in the 4th and the 5th innings highlighted by a RBI double by Caitlyn Francoeur.  In the top of the 6th Nikolette Nevola led off with a solo home run to give STAC a 6-1 lead. Francoeur reached on an error and Chelak hit a double in the next at bat.  Francoeur scored on an illegal pitch and Chelak was brought home by a RBI sac fly from McDonald.

The Golden Lions added two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Julie Sosnicki earned the win on the mound with three strike outs.  McDonald went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run.  Danielle DiModugno and Amanda Leone each went 2-for-4 and added a run for the Spartans.   

In the second game, the Spartans had 6 hits and left 8 stranded as they struggled to score. Colleen Borum took the loss on the mound.  

The Spartans will travel to LIU Post on Saturday.
