Spartans Split on the Day, Picking up 6-5 Win Over Bentley

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team picked up its second win, off a late run in the 7th by Samantha McDonald, to edge Bentley 6-5.  The Spartans split on the day, falling to Nova Southeastern, 6-1.

The Spartans used a 3-run 2nd inning to get their offense going, starting with a triple to right field from Monica Tran.  With two outs and runners on first anf third, Tran scored on an error as Brianna Emanuele reached first.  Singles from Kelsey McGeehan and McDonald brought home two more runners to make the score 3-1 in favor of STAC.

Later in the 6th, with the game tied a 3-3, Emanuele hit a 2-RBI home run to put the Spartans ahead.  Bentley answered in the bottom of the inning with a homerun from Morgna Mazone and an RBI double to tie things up again.  

McDonald lead off the 7th with a walk and Brittany Malloy reached on an error moving the go ahead run to second.  Amanda Leone also reached on an error after her SAC bunt and McDonald was able to score the game winning run.  Briana Keaveney earned the win on the mound and had four strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, Danielle DiModugno had an RBI single scoring the Spartans lone run of the game.

STAC will return to action on Tuesday when they face Pace Univeristy in their first game and then Bemidji St. in game two.
