Purple Knights Top Spartans

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team fell to Bridgeport, 9-3 and 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday's game was the final home game for the Spartans and senior day game for their four seniors.

The Purple Knights used a seven run 3rd inning to get out ahead of the Spartans and never looked back.  STAC put together two runs in the bottom of the 4th off an RBI from Nikolette Nevola and a RBI single from Cyan Scarduzio.  Nevola scored Kelcy McGeehan who had reached on a Bridgeport error.  Scarduzio drove home Brittany Mangan who had reached on a fielder's choice.  

In the top of the 5th, Bridgeport's Janaya Young had a RBI double and Brittney Malo stole home to add two more runs to the board.  STAC's final run came off a RBI ground out by Brittany Malloy to score Scarduzio.  Scarduzio led off the inning with a single and went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI for the game.  

Julie Sosnicki took the loss on the mound giving up seven runs in the 3rd inning.  Colleen Borum had five strike outs in five innings for the Spartans.

In the second game of the day, the Spartan bats went cold with just four hits in seven innings.  The Purple Knights got back on the board quickly scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a 2 RBI double by Meghan O'Leary.  Briana Keaveney had the loss on the mound for the Spartans.

STAC will travel to Philadelphia University on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. double header.
