The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to Caldwell, 8-0 in both of their games on Thursday afternoon. The Spartan offense struggled a total of six hits, leaving nine stranded between the two games.
In game one, Brittany Malloy hit a double to right field with one out in the top of the 5th. Malloy was left stranded with back to back strike outs to end the inning for the Spartans. Julie Sosnicki gave up seven hits in the loss. Amber Padilla had five strike outs in the shutout for the Cougars moving her win total to 13 for the season.
Down 5-0 in the second game, Caitlyn Francoeur had a double to lead off the 5th inning but three quick outs ended her chance of earning a run for the Spartans. Briana Keaveney had the loss on the mound for the Spartans giving up eight hits and five runs in four innings. Syndey Ponto had four stirkeouts through five innings to pick up her 10th win of the season.
STAC will return to action on Saturday when they travel to NYIT for a noon double header.
