The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Dominican College today. The Spartans fell 9-3 in the first game and then came back with a 5-1 victory in game two.
Dominican opened the game with a 3-run first inning but STAC responded with an RBI single from Danielle DiModugno in the bottom of the inning. DiModugno's hit scored Alyssa Chelak who also singled.
The Spartans scored two more runs in the bottom of the 6th, making the score 6-3. The Chargers added 3 more runs in the top of the 7th to secure the win. Briana Keaveney picked up her first loss on the mound.
In the second game of the day, it was the Spartans that got the scoring done early taking a 2-0 lead off RBI singles from Kelcy McGeehan and Colleen Borum. Chelak and Brittany Malloy each doubled and scored runs for the Spartans. Nikolette Nevola added an RBI single in the third, scoring McGeehan.
The Spartans sealed the deal with two more runs in the 5th. Malloy went 2-for-2 with 2 runs for the game. McGheehan went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and a RBI. Colleen Borum earned the win on the mound for STAC.
The Spartans will return to action when they host Molloy College on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
