Scarduzio's Walk Off Home Run Lifts Spartans Over Dowling, 8-7. Spartan Batters Put Lions Away 11-2 in Game Two

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Dowling, 8-7 in game one with a 3-run walk off home run by Cyan Scarduzio

Dowling opened the game with a 3-run homer run from Gianna Gatto after Arianna La Puma and Victoria Gallagher each reach with singles.  The Spartans answered as their first two batters; Alyssa Chelak and Danielle DiModugno singled.  Kelcy McGeehan reached on a fielder's choice.  With one out, Nikolette Nevola's single sent both runners home and brought the Spartans within one, 3-2. 

In the top of the second, Gallagher hit a monster shot off the Spartan score board to give the Lions a 4-2 lead.  The Lions added a run in the 3rd off an RBI single from Samantha Laird.  Caitlyn Francoeur drew a walk in the bottom of the 3rd with bases loaded to bring in another run for the Spartans.  Amanda Leone's 2-RBI single tied the game up at 5-5.

Crystal Tarango's 2-RBI double put the Lions ahead, 7-5 in the top of the 4th.  Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the 7th.  Leone singled with  two outs to keep the Spartans hopes alive. Brittany Mangan walked to put the tying run on base and setting the stage for Scarduzio's game winner.  The freshmen's go ahead hit was a long ball just over the right center fence giving the Spartans the 8-7 victory.  

Colleen Borum earned the win on the mound for in 3.2 innings. 

In game two, the Spartans continued with their hot bats with an impressive 11-run 3rd inning.  The inning began with a lead off home run from Caitlyn Francoeur.  Alyssa Chelak followed with a 3-run home run a few bats later giving STAC a 4-0 lead.  Chelak scored Scarduzio who singled and Malloy who reached on an error.  DiModugno added a 2-RBI single to score Brianna Keaveney and McGeehan.  Up 6-0, Nevola singled as the Spartans rounded the order.  Scarduzio added another RBI single for the Spartans and Brittany Malloy followed with a 3 RBI double to clear the bases.  Kelcy McGeehan scored the final run of the inning with an RBI single to bring Malloy home.  

Dowling got on the scoreboard in the top of the 4th with a 2-RBI home run over center field from Crystal Tarango.  

Keaveney earned the win on the mound for the Spartans through five innings.  

The Spartans will return to action next Saturday when they travel to NYIT.
