Spartans Continue Home Winning Streak

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Felician College 8-0 and 10-6 on Monday afternoon to pick up their 8th consecutive home win.   

In game one, the Spartans used a solid five run 6th inning, putting the mercy rule in effect and knocking off the Falcons, 8-0.  The inning started off with a single from Cyan Scarduzio who was brought home by a RBI double from Briana Keaveney.  Keaveney scored for the Spartans off an error. Danielle DiModugno added a 2RBI single and Brittany Mangan reached on a fielder's choice bringing home the Spartan's 8th run and winning the game.  Nikolette Nevola who walked three batters before scored the game ending run.  

Earlier in the game the Spartans scored a single run in the 3rd and 4th off RBI singles from Leone and Brittany Malloy.  In the bottom of the 5th, Alyssa Chelak hit an RBI triple to score Colleen Borum. Borum had seven strike outs in six innings for the shutout win.  

The second game of the day saw the Spartans get out to an early 5-0 lead through four innings. The 3rd inning was highlighted by a RBI single from Kelcy McGeehan and a 2 RBI home run from Malloy. STAC added two more runs in the 4th off RBI singles from McCarthy and McGeehan.  

The Falcons finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th win an RBI single from Miranda Torres and a 3 RBI home run from Mia Montoya, bringing them withing one, 5-4.  Again the Spartans were able to put together a five run 6th inning to keep the guest out of reach.  With one out, McGeehan singled and Malloy walked to move a runner into scoring position.  A DiModugno single brought home Monica Tran who pinch ran for McGeehan.  

Chelak added a RBI single a Mangan drilled a 2 RBI triple to score Chelak and DiModugno.  Nevola added a RBI single to score the Spartans fifth run of the inning and take a 10-4 lead.  Felician added two runs in the top of the 7th but it was not enough to make a run.  

STAC's Alyssa Williams earned the win on the mound for the Spartans who used three different pitchers in the game.  Julie Sosnicki went the first three innings picking up three stirke outs and Keaveney went 2.1 innings and recorded two strike outs.  

STAC will return to action on Tuesday for their final home game of the season where they will honor their four seniors in a pre game ceremony.  Game time for Tuesday is slated for 2:30 p.m.
