Spartans Wrap Up Season at molloy

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost two close games at Molloy on Sunday afternoon, 3-2 and 4-3.  The Spartans conclude their season with a record of 15-32. 

In the first game of the day, the Spartasn tried to rally in the 7th inning with back to back solo home runs.  With one out, Kelcy McGeehan hit a homerun to make the score 3-1 followed by Cyan Scarduzio's home run in the nxet at bat.  Nikolette Nevola singled, putting the game tying run on base, but was left stranded after a strike out and ground out.  

In the second game, the Spartans wasted no time as they put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first.  Briana Keaveney walked to lead off and advanced to second as Brittany Malloy reached on a fielder's choice.  Danielle DiModugno walked to load the bases.  A third walk, this time by McGeehan brought the first Spartan run in.  Nevola's sac fly scored Malloy to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.  

The Lion's Brianna Dalton hit an RBI double to bring in a run, making the score 2-1 in the bottom of the inning.  McGeehan added another RBI, this time off a double to center field in the top if the third.  McGeehan scored Malloy who led off the inning with a single, giving the Spartans a 3-1 lead. 

Molloy responded in the bottom of the inning scoring a run to bring them within one, 3-2.  Both teams remained scoreless in the next couple of innings.  With one out in the bottom of the 7th, Molloy's Dalton hit an RBI single to tie the game.  The Spartans forced the next batter to pop up and get the second out with two runners on base.  Sarah Rambo's single scored the game winning run giving the Lions the 4-3 victory.  

The Spartans, which consists of eleven freshmen, won seven ECC games and tied their winningest season record since 2010.   The young team was extremely competitive playing in many close games and losing five game by just one run.
