Spartans Drop Tough Outing to NYIT

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to NYIT, 9-0 and 15-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans struggled to get their offense going against the 4-1 Bears, having only three hits for the day.  

In the first game, NYIT's Kat Zabielski opened the game up with her grad slam in the 5th to give NYIT a 6-0 lead.  The Bears had eleven hits for the game.  Laura McLaughlin earned the win on the mound for tech to go 8-2 overall.  

Kelcy McGeehan and Briana Emanuele each had a hit for the Spartans.  Julie Sosnicki took the loss on the mound going all seven innings.  

In game two, Brittany Malloy had the only hit for the Spartans.  Carly Wade had three strikeouts in four innings to earn the win for the Bears.  The Bears scored one run in the first inning and then came on strong with five runs in both the third and fourth innings.  The Bears finished off the fifth inning with another grand slam, this time by Tiffany McCracken.  

The Spartans will return to action on Friday when they travel to Caldwell for a 2:30 start.
