Bears Overpower Spartans, 7-0 and 8-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team struggled at NYIT on Saturday afternoon falling, 7-0 and 8-0. NYIT is currently in second place in the ECC with a conference record of 16-2.  

The Spartans struggled with their bats for the second pair of games in a row putting together nine hits between the two games.  In game one, the Spartans had five hits from five different player and two walks leaving seven stranded.  Tiffany McCracken went 4-for-4 for the Bears with a RBI and a run. Julie Sosnicki gave up four runs in three innings taking the loss on the mound for the Spartans. Laura McLaughlin picked up the win with three strikeouts in the shutout.  

Briana Keaveney went 3-for-6 for the day with two hits in the second game.  Keaveney had the loss on the mound.  McCracken continued her hitting streak going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a run for NYIT. Sofia Evangelistic earned the win for the Bear with three strike outs in six innings.  

The Spartans will return to action on Sunday when they play Mercy College at 1:00 p.m.  STAC is currently tied for 5th place in the ECC and fighting for a playoff spot.
