Spartans Finish Florida Trip With Three Consecutive Wins

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team ended their 10 game series in Florida with three straight wins.  The Spartans beat Post University 3-2 in their second game of the day on Wednesday before topping Viterbo, 15-9 and St. Michael's, 8-0.

Valerie Winalski had the game winning RBI in the 6th inning sending Melissa Sadler home and giving STAC a 3-2 lead over the Eagles.  Ashley Landolina had an RBI single just an inning earlier to tie the game at 2-up.  Post had 12 hits to the Spartans 6 but the STAC defense was able to hold the Eagles in check.  Colleen Borum went the distance and picked up her third win of the season.  

The Spartans took Wednesday's momentum into their next game on Thursday afternoon topping Viterbo, 15-9.  

Later in the day the Spartans had their third shutout victory beating St. Michael's 8-0 in 6 innings.  Briana Keaveney got things started for the Spartans with her 3-RBI triple to right center in the 4th inning. Keaveney scored Caitlyn Francoeur, Melissa Sadler and Kelcy McGeehan.

In the 5th inning, McGeehan had an RBI double to score Amanda Schweitzer.  Sadler added an RBI single and went on to score a few batters later off an error.  Valerie Winalski scored to give STAC a 7-0 lead through five.  

McGeehan added a sac-fly RBI scoring Schweitzer who led off with a double.  McGeehan went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.  Julie Sosnicki earned the win on the mound yielding just two hits and striking out three.  

STAC returns home to NY with a record of 7-5 giving them their best start in recent years.  The Spartans seven win total ties the most wins they've had in March since 2011.  STAC will take on cross town rival Dominican College next Thursday at 3:30 pm
