Spartans Pick Up 5-3 Win at Bridgeport

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with the University of Bridgeport winning, 5-3 before falling 6-3.

Briana Keaveney went 2-for-3 and scored 2 runs and an RBI.  With two outs Keaveney singled to center field and was brought home by Amanda Schweitzer's RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.  

Keaveney also got the Spartans going with another single in the top of the 4th which brought home Me'Lani Kendel to give STAC the lead.  A single from Ashley Landolina and a double from Schweitzer drove in three more runs for the Spartans to give them a 5-1 lead.  

The Purple Knights tried to rally scoring two runs off a triple from Allison Luzzi but the Spartans were able to end the inning and secure the win.  Colleen Borum pitched 5 innings and earned the win on the mound with 2 strikeouts.  

In the second game, Bridgeport took an early two run lead after one inning.  The Spartans were able to tie things up in the top of the 2nd off RBI sinlges from Leone and Landolina.  Meghan O'Leary hit a solo homer for the Purple Knights to give them back the lead but the Spartans responded quickly with an RBI single from Kelcy McGeehan.  

A strong 5th inning allowed the home team to add three more runs to the scoreboard.  The Spartans were only able to put together two hits in the final two innings leaving both runners stranded.  Julie Sosnicki had the loss on the mound with 3 strike outs.
