Spartans Split with Golden Falcons

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Felician University on Monday afternoon; falling 6-2, before winning the second game, 9-8.  

In game one, the Spartans scored both of their runs in the 3rd inning off of RBI singles from Amanda Leone and Ashley Landolina.  Leone scored Briana Keaveney who reached on an error. Landolina brought Leone home to give STAC a 2-0 lead, but it did not hold up.  

The Golden Falcons responded quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Steph Donah.  Both teams had 8 hits for the game and the Spartans left seven stranded.  Julie Sosnicki had one strikeout in the loss.

In the second game of the day, the Spartans used a three-run 7th inning to pull off the come from behind win.  The Spartans got on the scoreboard early off an solo homer from Landolina.  Landolina came up big again in the 2nd inning with an RBI single.  The Spartans took a 5-0 lead, but the hosts were able to climb back within two in the bottom of the 2nd.  Each team added a run in the 5th with the Spartans scoring Kelcy McGeehan off an RBI double from Leone.  

Felician took a one run lead after 6 innings, but the Spartans were not done.  An RBI from Danielle DiModugno tied the game.  Landolina scored the go ahead run and McGeehan scored on an error to give the Spartans a two-run lead.  

Donah rallied the Golden Falcons to within one, but the Spartans held on for the victory.  Colleen Borum earned the win for St. Thomas Aquinas.  STAC will be back in action on Friday when the host LIU Post for a 2:30 pm double header.
