Spartans Split With Pioneers

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with LIU Post on Thursday afternoon picking up a 4-3 win before falling 1-0 in the second game.

Briana Keaveney was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in the first game, driving in two runs in the bottom of the 2nd off her single.  Both team went scoreless for the next four innings until the Pioneers took the lead on a 3-run 7th inning.

Down one with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Kelcy McGeehan gave the Spartans a chance with her double.  Briana Emanuele came in to pinch run for McGeehan.  With the game tying run at 2nd, Danielle DiModugno's single was enough to bring Emanuele home.  DiModugno made it to 3rd off a series of errors.  Alyssa Farr came in to run for DiModugno and was able to score off another Pioneer error and secure the win for the Spartans.

Colleen Borum picked up her 9th win of the season on the mound for the Spartans.

The bats were a lot quieter in game two with neither team scoring until Claire Travis hit a solo home run in the top of the 6th for the Pioneers.  The Spartans had two hits for the game and left five stranded on base.

Julie Sosnicki yeilded 4 hits and had 3 strikeouts in the loss.  The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to NYIT for a 2:00 double header.
