The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team fell to Mercy College, 13-1 and 7-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
In the first game, Mercy exploded for 13 runs and 16 hits in taking game one in five innings. Both teams went scoreless in the first inning, but the Mavericks put together seven runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Amanda Schweitzer singled home Ashley Landolina to make it 7-1. After going down in order in the third inning, the Mavericks responded by plating six runs in the fourth to up their lead to 13-1.
In game two, the Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat on an unearned run. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th, when Kaylee Stevens hit an RBI single to tie the game up at 1-1.
Landolina went 4-for-4 with two runs for the Spartans and Colleen Borum allowed four earned runs in five innings to take the loss.
