Mavericks Edge Spartans In ECC Twin Bill

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team fell to Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon.  

The Maverick's used a three run 7th inning to break open a 4-4 tie and set up the win.  The Spartans rallied scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning but fell short, 7-6.  STAC got off to a strong start behind a 2-RBI single from Caitlyn Francoeur.  

The Spartans added two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd off an RBI single from Amanda Leone and an RBI double from Amanda Schweitzer.  The Maverick's evened things up in the top of the 5th highlighted by a 2 RBI single from Morgan Lloyd.  

Mercy loaded the bases in the top of the 7th off errors from the Spartan infield and went on to score three unearned runs.  The Spartans were also able to capitalize off of Mercy's fielding error's and loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning.  Francoeur added another RBI off a sac fly finishing with 3 RBI for the game.  Leone and Schweitzer each went 2-for-3 for the Spartans.  

Julie Sosnicki had 5 strike outs in the loss.  

In the second game of the day, the Spartans were first on the scoreboard from an RBI sac bunt from Briana Emanuele in the bottom of the 5th.  However, late runs from the Mavericks gave the guests a 3-1 lead.

Colleen Borum had the loss on the mound for the Spartans.

STAC will return to action on Friday when they host Bridgeport.  Game one is slated for a 2:30 start.
