Spartans Split With Knights

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Queens College falling 6-1 in the first game before winning 7-5 after 9 innings in game two. 

The Knights batted with power in game one hitting three home runs that lead to 4 RBI.  Lauren Pascual hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning to put Queens on the scoreboard.  Danielle DiModugno's RBI double to center field scored the Spartans only run of the game.  

Queen's Kayla Morrisey and Maryjane D'Agostino hit back to back home runs in the 6th inning.  Julie Sosnicki had the loss on the mound for the Spartans.  

In game two, Amanda Schweitzer went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, while Kelcy McGeehan went 2-for-3 with a run.  Both Schweitzer and McGeehan scored in the 3rd inning to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.  

Missy Sadler and Ashley Landolina went 2-for-4 with a run both scoring in the top of the 6th. Landolina's home run topped the 6th inning and the Spartans took a 5-0 lead into the botom of the inning.

The Knights would not go away quietly as they rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game.  The Knights batted around scoring on a trio of RBI singles and added two runs unearned.

The game remainded tied through the 7th and 8th innings.  A single from Valerie Winalski and back to back walks from Schweitzer and DiModungo loaded the bases for the Spartans with one out.  Winalski scored on a wild pitch to give STAC a one run lead.  An RBI sac fly by Caitlyn Francoeur scored Schweitzer giving the Spartans a 7-5 lead.  

The Spartans were able to secure the win turning two with a double play hit to Landolina and a ground out.  

Colleen Borum had five strike outs in the win, picking up her 7th win of the season.
