Spartans Drop Final Two Home Games Against Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost both games of Saturday's double header against Queens, 6-0 and 5-3.  

The Spartans honored their lone senior, Julie Sosnicki prior to the game.  Sosnicki took the loss on the mound yielding six hits in six innings.  The senior pitcher gave up three runs and had 7 strikeouts for the game.  

The Spartan offense struggled as they only produce two hits; one from Amanda Leone and the other from Valerie Winalski.  Queens scored a single run in the 4th, 5th and 6th inning and then added three insurance runs in the 7th. 

In the second game of the day, the Spartans fell behind 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning.  Ashley Landolina hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th to put the Spartans on the scoreboard for the first time for the day.  

STAC used a pair of singles to get runners into scoring position in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Two errors by the Knights led to two runners scoring; giving the Spartans a 3-2 lead.  

Queens was able to regain the lead with a 3-run 7th inning highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Valeriano.  The Spartans left on stranded in the bottom of the inning falling 5-3.  Colleen Borum had two strike outs in the loss on the mound.  

STAC will finish out the regular season with a double header at Molloy on Sunday.
