Run-scoring singles by Kelcy McGeehan, Danielle DiModugno and Amanda Leone keyed a five-run, sixth-inning rally to push the St. Thomas Aquinas College women's softball team to a 6-5 win over host University of Bridgeport in the second game of an East Coast Conference doubleheader today at Seaside Park. Bridgeport won the opener, 8-4.

"I am proud of the way the girls bounced back in the second game," said Kristen Sullivan, the STAC head coach. "Every win in the conference is important so the girls showed a lot of character coming from behind and then holding off their late rally."

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Lady Spartans put together five hits, two stolen bases and sent 10 batters to the plate to build a 6-2 lead. Melissa Sadler started the rally with a double before McGeehan later plated the tying run with a suicide squeeze bunt. DiModugno and Leone then stroked their big hits. Caitlyn Francoeur had three hits for the winners and starting pitcher

Briana Keaveney registered her fifth win of the season. Shortstop Ashley Landolina threw out the potential tying run in the sixth inning on an attempted steal of home. "Our offense continues to get contributions from many different players," said Sullivan.

Bridgeport broken open the first game with seven runs in the fifth inning. The Purple Knights were led by Allison Luzzi, who homered and drove in three runs. She also went deep in the second game and is now hitting .398 with six home runs,  23 RBI and 28 runs scored in 28 games. Amanda Schweitzer homered for STAC and McGeehan had two hits.

The Lady Spartans have won six of their last 10 games and are now 4-6 in conference play and 9-19 overall. They next host LIU Post on Thursday in an ECC doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m.
