
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost two games on Friday afternoon to visiting St. Rose College.
In the opening game of the day, the Spartans fell behing 6-0 after a 5-run 4th inning by the Golden Knights. STAC rallied back in the bottom of the inning starting off with a pair of singles from Taylor Sullivan and Me'-Lani Kendle and highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Melissa Sadler, to bring the Spartans within two, 3-2. Briana Keaveney's RBI sac fly in the 7th inning scored the Spartans fourth run but STAC fell short stranding six in the game.
Keaveney was 3-for-4 for the game. Colleen Borum had three strikeouts in the loss on the mound.
In game two, Saint Rose got on the scoreboard first with a 2-run 3rd inning. Amanda Leone's RBI single to score Ashley Landolina brought the Spartans within one. STAC took the lead in the bottom of the 5th off a 2-RBI single from Amanda Schweitzer. The visitors were able to tie things up with a solo home run from Astasia Myler in the top of the 6th.
The game remained tied until the top of the 9th when a pair off Spartan errors lead to runs scored including a 3 RBI double. Katie Shevlin secured the win for the visitors with a two run home run to extend their lead to 9-3. Briana Keaveney had three strikeouts in the loss. Landolina went 3-for-4 with 2 runs.
STAC will return to action on Sunday when they host Caldwell for double header action beginning at noon.
