Leone, Borum, McGeehan Lead Spartans to Two Florida Wins

Amanda Leone's three-run home run and Colleen Borum's pitching propelled the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to a pair of come-from-behind wins Monday to even its record at 3-3 in its 12-game Florida swing.

In the first game of the day, STAC used clutch hitting and sound defense to register a 5-3 win over Notre Dame College (Ohio). Briana Keaveney's run-producing double broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning and Leone and Elise Oliande delivered RBI hits in the fifth inning to give STAC a lead they never relinquished.

Keaveney pitched four effective innings and Borum came on in relief to get the save. Teammate Kelcy McGeehan starred defensively at third base with two outstanding plays in the fourth inning.

Borum was the winning pitcher with five innings of solid relief pitching in STAC's 7-4 victory over Holy Family University (Pa.). Leone's three-run homer in the first inning erased a 2-0 deficit and the Spartans pushed across another three runs in the second inning to build a 6-4 lead. Oliande and Alyssa Farr had hits in the rally. Ashley Landolina (two runs) and McGeehan (defense) also excelled.

"We received contributions from many different players today so I'm very pleased with our overall effort," said Kristen Sullivan, STAC's head coach. "We rebounded from our slow start here and we are now finding ways to win games."

STAC plays California University (Pa.) at 4pm and Le Moyne College (N.Y.) at 6pm on Tuesday, the sixth day of their 10-day road trip.
