Home runs by Amanda Leone and Briana Keaveney powered a 12-hit attack to push the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to a 12-2 win over Le Moyne College Monday in Clermont, Fla.

Leone, who was celebrating her birthday, highlighted a 10-run, second-inning rally with a long three-run homer to left field. Keaveney followed with a line drive into the right field corner and hustled it into a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Keaveney finished with two hits and three runs scored while teammates Taylor Sullivan and Alyssa Chelak each had two hits and two runs scored.

Colleen Borum registered the win with five innings of effective mound work. She spaced four hits and retired the last 10 batters of the game. Sullivan (first base), Kelcy McGeehan (third base) and Amanda Castro (second base) excelled defensively. STAC has now posted Florida wins over Northeast-10 programs Le Moyne and Merrimack.

In the earlier game, NCAA Div. II perennial powerhouse California University (Pa.)'s Emilee Downing outdueled STAC's Adrianna Dilal to post a 1-0 win. California is a two-time Div. II National Champion. Downing allowed one hit, struck out eight and retired the last 10 batters consecutively to end the game.

Dilal, the hard-luck loser, twirled a two-hitter, fanned three and retired 11 batters in a row at one point.

"One of the objectives of coming to Florida is to play against top programs and today we faced two quality teams," said Kristen Sullivan, STAC's head coach. "Downing was the most talented pitcher that we've seen this year and she did an excellent job against our lineup, which has been hot. Our bats exploded in the second game and we got another game of sound pitching and defense."

STAC plays Bentley (Mass.) at 11:15am and Millersville (Pa.) at 1:30pm on Thursday in the eighth day of their 10-day road trip.
