Borum’s Four-Hitter Leads Spartans Past Caldwell

Senior Colleen Borum's four-hit pitching performance propelled the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to a 2-1 win over Caldwell University in a non-conference game today at Yanticaw Park in Nutley, N.J. Caldwell won the backend of the doubleheader, 4-1.

The Spartans erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth inning. Brianna Keaveney started the rally with a one-out triple to centerfield and Caldwell elected to intentionally walk Ashley Landolina, who then stole second base. Amanda Leone followed with a two-run single.

That was all that Borum needed, as she enticed 17 ground ball outs with an assortment of pitches. Caitlyn Francoeur (second base) and Landolina (shortstop) excelled defensively behind her. Keaveney had three hits in the game.

"Colleen had all of her pitches working today and was the difference in the game," said Kristen Sullivan, STAC's Head Coach. "We put together a nice rally in the fifth inning and beat a quality team."

In the nightcap, Caldwell scored three runs in the first inning and rode the pitching of freshman pitcher Mariah Culver. The righthander struck out eight and walked one. STAC's Adrianna Dilal pitched well.

STAC next visits Queens College on Tuesday for two games at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
