The St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team rode the two-hit pitching performance of Adrianna Dilal and a seven-run, fourth-inning to defeat Merrimack College, 8-0 (Final/5-innings), to register their first win of the young season.
Dilal was in command throughout the game to record her first win as a Lady Spartan. She struck out four, walked one and also excelled defensively.
"Merrimack is a quality program from the Northeast-10 Conference so this is an important win," said STAC Head Coach Kristen Sullivan. "Adrianna had exceptional control today and used a variety of pitches to hold down a very strong lineup."
Kelcy McGeehan's two-out double gave STAC a 1-0 lead in the third inning before the pivotal fourth inning. Briana Keaveney and Ashley Landolina stroked run-scoring singles and Amanda Leone culminated the rally with three-run triple. Elise Oliande and Amanda Castro added two hits.
In the first game of the day, St. Thomas Aquinas dropped at 3-1 decision to Concordia College. Me'-Lani Kendle went 2-for-4 and scored the lone run of the morning opener. Colleen Borum (L, 0-1) gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, while walking two and striking out four over 6 innings.
The Spartans (1-3) continue their 12-game, 10-day Florida road trip with games Monday against Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 4pm and Holy Family University (Pa.) at 6pm.
