Dilal's Three-Hit Shutout Gives Spartans A Doubleheader Split At Molloy

Junior Adrianna Dilal threw a three-hit shutout and also drove in a key run to lift the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to a 4-0 win over Molloy College today in the second game of an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Bob Klein Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Molloy took the first game, 5-0.

The win pushed STAC's overall record to 15-11 and 6-2 in the ECC, while Molloy fell to 13-20 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Dilal, a transfer student from Kutztown University, was in command from the start. She scattered three hits and struck out six to increase her record to 5-6. Adrianna stroked a run-scoring single to right field to score teammate Melissa Sadler in the sixth inning to culminate a two-run rally that broke a scoreless tie. Kelcy McGeehan started the pivotal surge with a one-out double made possible with a hustling head-first slide.

The Spartans added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. McGeehan's RBI single to score Brianna Keaveney was the big hit in the frame.

"Adrianna was the difference in the game," said STAC Head Coach Kristen Sullivan. "She had good location and was able to get a few strikeouts in key spots. Offensively, we were able to string together hits in the sixth and seventh innings to break open a close game."

In Saturday's opener, the Lions scored four times in the fourth inning to give winning pitcher Courtney Greene, who allowed just four hits, all of the support she would need. McGeehan had two hits for St. Thomas Aquinas.

STAC next hosts the University of Bridgeport on Sunday in an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Spartan Field, with first pitch of game one set for noon.
