Landolina, Francoeur Home Runs Power Spartans to 8-0 Triumph at Nyack

Caitlyn Francoeur and Ashley Landolina each homered to power the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to an 8-0 win over Nyack College in a non-conference game on Friday at the South Orangetown Little League field in Orangeburg, NY.

The win pushed STAC's record to 20-15 and marks the seventh 20-win season since the program was launched 35 years ago. It is the first 20-win season since 2008 and Head Coach Kristen Sullivan's third 20-win season of her 10-year career.

"The 20-win mark is a standard of excellence in college softball, so I am very proud of the girls," said Sullivan. "We got off to a great start today and sustained our intensity throughout. This is a nice way to prepare for all of our important conference games coming up."

The Spartans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Landolina's (Tolland, Ct.) home run to left field and Francoeur (East Bridgewater, Mass.) followed with her fifth homer of the season in the fourth inning to expand the led to 4-0. Francoeur finished with two hits and three RBIs while Briana Keaveney (New City, N.Y.) had three hits and two runs scored.

Pitchers Colleen Borum (Mountain Top, Pa.) started today's lone game and only surrendered two hits, walked one and struck out another, over two and two thirds innings. Adrianna Dilal (Rochester, N.Y.) came on in relief and picked up her 9th win of the season, holding Nyack to just another two hits, while striking out seven over the final four and a third.

STAC next visits NYIT on Saturday, April 20 in an East Coast Conference doubleheader. Please note that the start time of game one has now been pushed back to 2:30 p.m. due to the forecast of rain overnight Friday into early Saturday morning.
