Ashley Landolina went four-for-four and the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team pounded out 13 hits today to defeat host College of St. Rose, 7-4, and sweep a non-conference doubleheader in Albany, NY. The Lady Spartans won the first game, 2-1, to push their overall record to 14-10.

Landolina, a junior, is now batting .400 and leads the team in hits, home runs and RBIs. She was in the middle of two offensive outbursts that helped STAC build a 7-0 advantage. Her first-inning single drove in the game's first run and she singled in another run and scored in a three-run sixth-inning surge that broke open the game.

There were plenty of offensive stars in the win. Senior Caitlyn Francoeur lifted her batting average to .388 with two hits, two RBI and a run scored while teammates Valerie Winalski, Adrianna Dilal and freshman Sarah Williams each had two hits. Winning pitcher Adriana Dilal struck out eight batters.

The Spartans paved a different path to victory in the first game. Senior Colleen Borum won her ninth straight start and worked out of a tight jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to boost her record to 9-2. Borum surrendered a run-scoring single in the seventh to cut STAC's lead to 2-1 but she left the potential tying and go-ahead runs on base by retiring the game's final two batters. Teammates Taylor Sullivan (first base), Landolina (shortstop) and Francoeur (second base) excelled in the field.

Francoeur sparkled offensively again. Her squeeze bunt scored teammate Briana Keaveney, who had tripled, and her homer in the fifth inning proved to be the deciding run. It was her third homer in five games.

"We got consistent pitching from Colleen and Adrianna and very strong infield defense," said STAC Head Coach Kristen Sullivan. "We overcame very cold conditions here. I am proud of the way the girls played today."

St. Thomas Aquinas next heads to Rockville Centre and a match-up with the Molloy College Lions on Saturday in an East Coast Conference doubleheader that starts at 4 p.m.
