Della Vecchia's No-Hitter Completes Twin Bill Sweep at Staten Island
Staten Island, N.Y. - Carissa Della Vecchia pitched a no-hitter in a 9-0 win to power St. Thomas Aquinas College to a doubleheader sweep over host College of Staten Island today in East Coast Conference softball action. STAC won the first game, 3-1.

Della Vecchia's masterpiece extended STAC's win streak to six games and lifted its ECC record to 4-0 and overall mark to 10-11. CSI fell to 0-6 in the conference and 5-11 overall.

"Carissa was in command from the start of the game and never let up," said Kristen Sullivan, STAC's head coach. "Carissa and Abbie (Landrum) have been giving us very good pitching and that continued today."

Della Vecchia, a senior from Wappinger's Falls, N.Y., walked one and struck out nine enroute to her second career collegiate no-hitter. Her first no-hitter came in 2019 against Molloy College while playing for New York Institute of Technology before transferring to STAC last year. The no-hitter is the first for a STAC pitcher since Adrianna Dilal held Molloy College hitless on April 23, 2019. It is the 14th no-hitter in the 42-year history of the program. Ironically, Sullivan threw the only perfect game in program history in 1990 to go with five no-hitters.

The Spartans gave Della Vecchia all the run support that she needed in the first inning with four runs before finishing with 12 hits, their largest output of the season. Sophomore Tara Hagan led the way with three hits and two RBI with teammate Amanda Castro chipping in with two hits and two RBI.

Landrum's pitching was the difference in the first game as the freshman registered her fifth win in 11 decisions. Della Vecchia's first home run of the season provided an insurance run in the seventh inning.

STAC next travels across town to meet Dominican College in a non-conference doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
