STAC Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Saint Rose
Sparkill, N.Y. - Freshman Abbie Landrum twirled a two-hit shutout in the first game and Emilie Olivier's two-run triple in the second game powered St. Thomas Aquinas College to a doubleheader sweep of the College of St. Rose on Sunday in non-conference softball action at Spartan Field in Sparkill. STAC won the first game, 3-0, and posted a 3-2 win in the second game.

The sweep pushed STAC's record to 4-9 while St. Rose fell to 4-11.

St. Thomas Aquinas jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game and Landrum's pitching supported by excellent team defense made the runs stand up. Senior Amanda Castro ignited the decisive rally with a double and Tara Hagan followed with a single to set up Emilee Mayer's run-producing single to left field. Carissa Della Vecchia then delivered a two-run double. Landrum was in command throughout and received superb defensive assistance from Olivier, who had six assists at third base.

In the second game, Olivier's two-run triple scored Della Vecchia and Amanda Demmerle to push STAC to a quick 2-0 first-inning lead and Castro followed with an RBI double. Della Vecchia's effective pitching made the lead hold up. The senior lefty recorded 11 strikeouts to register her second win of the season.

STAC next travels to Adelphi University on Tuesday (March 22) for a non-conference twinbill that begins at 2:30 p.m.
