Sparkill, N.Y. - A pair of St. Thomas Aquinas College softball players scored Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) First Team All-East Region selections, as Carissa Della Vecchia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Abbie Landrum (Buena Park, Calif.) received the prestigious honor on Tuesday.
Della Vecchia’s pitching excellence, earned her the ECC Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Conference accolades, NFCA First Team All-Region honors and has placed her among the leaders nationally among approximately 600 pitchers in NCAA Division II. She finished the 2023 season ranked eighth in the nation in strikeouts-per seven innings (9.5), 14th in all of Division II in total strikeouts (217) and 22nd nationally with seven shutouts. She compiled a record of 19-3 with an earned run average of 1.40 (19th in D2).
Landrum, the ECC Player of the Year, a First Team All-Conference pick and NFCA First Team All-Region accolades, delivered for the Spartans as a hitter and pitcher. At the plate, she led the team in batting average (.308), on-base percentage (.359), slugging percentage (.470) and doubles (11) while hitting in the middle of the batting order. She compiled an impressive 2.13 earned run average in the circle on the way to an 11-11 record. In 147 innings, she walked only 26 batters and struck out another 107.
