Sparkill, N.Y. - Eliana Raposo's two-run single keyed a seven-run, second inning rally to propel St. Thomas Aquinas College to an 11-0 win over the College of Staten Island and a sweep of an East Coast Conference softball doubleheader. STAC won the first game, 6-4.
The two wins lifted STAC's conference record to 4-0 and 11-7 overall. CSI fell to 2-6 in the ECC and 8-18 overall.
In the second inning, the Spartans broke open the game with a flurry of hits highlighted by Raposo's hit and other run-producing hits by Abbie Landrum and Carissa Della Vecchia. Rapoo and Landrum finished wioth two hits and Amanda Demmerle scored three times. Della Vecchia recorded 10 strikeouts to lift her record to 6-2.
In the opener, STAC erased a 3-0 deficit with four runs in the second inning. Freshman Adriana Coira's two-run, two-out single and Landrum's two-run double to deep left field plated the runs. Elyse Marcano's alert delayed steal of third base sparked a two-run surge in the fourth inning to add insurance runs.
Landrum pitched well to notch the win and received excellent defensive help from Coira (shortstop), Marcano (second base) and Tara Hagan (first base).
STAC next visits D'Youville University on Monday (April 3) in an ECC twinbill that starts at 11 a.m.
