Carissa Della Vecchia Named Softball Assistant Coach

Sparkill, N.Y. - Head Coach Kristen Sullivan announced today the appointment of Assistant Coach Carissa Della Vecchia, one of the program’s best players ever.

Della Vecchia graduated in May after a spectacular three-year pitching career that included two no-hitters and the most career strikeouts in the 43-year history of the program.

“Carissa is one of the most accomplished players to ever play here and I am delighted to add her to the coaching staff,” said Sullivan. “Carissa has an intense passion for the game of softball and her enthusiasm will be a great asset to the program. She knows what it takes to succeed at this level.”

Della Vecchia was a driving force in the program’s unprecedented success over the last three seasons. Her 49-19 record helped the team post an impressive 84-62 record that included last year’s 32-18 mark and a first-ever ECC championship. She won numerous post-season awards including being tabbed to the NFCA All-East Region team last season.

Della Vecchia served as one of the team tri-captains last season and also sparkled as a hitter during her STAC career. Her nine home runs in the 2021 season ranks as the third most in program history.

“I have many very special memories from my playing career at STAC and I am thrilled to begin my coaching career here,” said Della Vecchia, who earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Master’s degree in Marketing at STAC. “Coach Sullivan and I have worked together for more than 140 games over the last three years and I can’t wait to work with her on this year’s team. From the field to the sidelines, my goals remain the same - represent the college in the most positive fashion and help the team achieve its full potential.”
