STAC Softball Drops Two To Adelphi
Garden City, N.Y. - St. Thomas Aquinas College saw its seven-game win streak snapped on Thursday afternoon, as Adelphi University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader at Janet L. Ficke Field by the scores of 4-1 and 7-3.

Adelphi improved its record to 11-15 with the twin bill sweep, while STAC fell back to the .500 mark at 16-16.

STAC opened the scoring in game one with a first inning RBI single by Tara Hagan, plating Elyse Marcano to put the visitors from Sparkill up 1-0. The Panthers tied the game at 1-1 in second inning on a sacrifice bunt by Angelina Kellogg that turned into a throwing error, allowing Faith Camilleri to score from second base. Adelphi pulled ahead for good in the sixth inning on an RBI single via Zee Shreter to bring home Kellogg to make it 2-1, and then a 2-RBI double courtesy of Courtney Wengryn gave the hosts a pair of insurance runs from Shreter and Angeline Montanez to put the Panthers' advantage on the scoreboard at 4-1.

Sarah Clancy got the start in the opener for the maroon and gold and allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over six inning pitched, while walking five and fanning one. Clancy was charged with the loss and slips to 7-9 on the year. Adelphi's Lindsey Hibbs moved to 7-9 on the season, hurling a complete game three-hitter, while only allowing one run. She also walked three and struck out five to earn her seventh win in 16 tries.

In the second game, Adelphi jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first two innings, as Jordyn Pasqueralli put the Panthers up 2-0 with a first inning, 2-RBI inside-the-park home run, also scoring Zee Shreter. That was followed by an Angela Lignelli RBI double, scoring Angelina Kellogg, a Courtney Murphy RBI single, sending Lignelli to the plate and Pasqueralli reaching first base on an error which brought home both Murphy and Shreter to cap a four-run second inning.

St. Thomas Aquinas got themselves onto the scoreboard in the third inning via a 2-RBI triple by Adriana Coira, which allowed both Elyse Marcano and Amanda Demmerle to score, cutting the deficit to 6-2. An Eliana Raposo sacrifice-fly then brought Coira to the plate to make it a 6-3 game. However, in the fourth inning, a failed pickoff attempt at third base allowed Zee Shreter to make her way home to give Adelphi back a four-run advantage (7-3), which they would hold the rest of the way.

Eliana Raposo got the start in game two and allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over six innings to fall to 9-6 on the season. She also walked three and struck out three. Adelphi's Lily Kenny took the ball in backend of the doubleheader and pitched three innings, giving up four hits and three runs, while walking one and fanning one. Lindsey Hibbs returned to the circle for the final four innings for the Panthers and continued her excellent afternoon, by allowing only a hit and a walk, while mowing down seven batters via strikeout to earn her second victory of the day to run her record to 8-9.

STAC next visits the College of Staten Island on Saturday (April 6) in an ECC doubleheader which is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m. at the CSI Softball Complex.
