Leon, Raposo, Marcano Lead STAC to Doubleheader Sweep Over CSI

Staten Island, N.Y. - Olivia Leon, Elyse Marcano and Eliana Raposo led an offensive attack that accumulated 16 runs and 20 hits in a doubleheader sweep of host College of Staten Island today in East Coast Conference softball action. STAC won by the scores of 7-3 and 9-2.

The wins pushed STAC's conference record to 7-1 and 18-16 overall while CSI fell to 3-5 in the ECC and 10-18 overall.

STAC built a 5-0 lead in the first game and rode the effective pitching of Sarah Clancy to victory. Marcano drove in STAC's first run with a third-inning single and senior Tara Hagan followed with a two-run double. After CSI pulled back into the game with three runs, Raposo provided key insurance runs with a two-run seventh inning single. Marcano and Raposo finished with two hits each and Amanda Demmerle scored twice. Clancy, a senior lefty, recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts while limiting CSI to six hits to lift her record to 8-9.

Leon enjoyed her finest offensive day of her young collegiate career. The freshman from North Rockland High School rapped three hits, scored two runs and drove in another run to pace a 14-hit offensive outburst. Raposo, who has been named the ECC Player of the Week for three straight weeks, continued her exceptional all-around play. She pitched a complete game and helped her own cause with two hits, two runs and two RBI. She was supported by strong defensive play by the Feerick sister combination of Jessica (third base) and Aliya (right field). Marcano and Hagan contributed two hits each.

The Spartans next host Pace University on Wednesday (April 10) in a non-conference twinbill scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. at Spartan Field in Sparkill.
