STAC Extends Win Streak to Five with Doubleheader Sweep of D'Youville

Buffalo, NY - St. Thomas Aquinas College tallied 17 runs on 22 hits to register two wins over host D'Youville University today in East Coast Conference softball action in frigid conditions at Dobson Field. STAC won by the scores of 7-6 and 10-1.

The sweep extended STAC's win steak to five games and lifted its conference record to 5-1 and 14-14 overall. D'Youville fell to 0-4 in the ECC and 5-17 overall.

In the first game, the Spartans build a 7-1 lead and held off a furious seventh inning rally by the hosts. Elyse Marcano's three-run double in the first inning and Tara Hagan's two run-scoring doubles paced the offense. D'Youville fought back with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but STAC center fielder Elaina Raposo threw out the potential tying run at home plate for the final out of the game.

Marcano and Adriana Coira finished with two hits each and Sarah Clancy was the winning pitcher.

The Spartans took an easier route to victory in the second game. Raposo drove in two runs in the first inning and STAC never looked back. Raposo, Coira, Marcano and Natalia Stewart had two hits each to pace a 13-hit outburst. Freshman teammate Aliya Feerick scored three times.

Raposo was the winning pitcher, needing only to go five innings due to the 8-run mercy rule.

STAC next visits New Haven University on Monday (April 1) in a non-conference doubleheader scheduled to start at 2:30 pm.
