Clancy, Raposo Throw Shutouts in Sweep of D'Youville

Sparkill, N.Y. - Sarah Clancy and Eliana Raposo both threw shutouts to power St. Thomas Aquinas College to 5-0 and 10-0 wins over visiting D'Youville University today in an East Coast Conference softball doubleheader at Spartan Field.

The two wins pushed STAC's overall record to 24-18 overall and 12-2 in the ECC. D'Youville fell to 9-27 and 3-11 in the conference.

Clancy, a senior lefthander, twirled one of her best games of her collegiate career. She allowed only four hits and registered a career-high 12 strikeouts to hike her record to 12-9. Supporting Clancy was a 12-hit attack buoyed by two hits each by Raposo, Elyse Marcano, Tara Hagan, Olivia Leon and Adriana Coira. Leon had an RBI double off the left field fence and Jessica Feerick drove in two runs. The Spartans scored four runs in the fourth inning to break open a scoreless game.

In the second game, STAC raced to a 10-0 lead after three innings and won the game via the 8-run mercy rule in five innings. Raposo notched her 12th win by allowing four hits and fanning three. She helped her own cause with two hits, three RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Hagan, who reached the prestigious 100-hit plateau on Wednesday, continued her hot hitting, The senior had two hits and three RBI.

The Feerick sister combo sparkled again. Jessica had two hits and three RBI while sister Aliya had a hit and a run scored.

STAC next hosts Post University on Tuesday (April 23) in a non-conference doubleheader scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
