Spartans Split Wednesday Doubleheader with Pace

Sparkill, N.Y. - Sarah Clancy's three-hit pitching and Eliana Raposo's home run carried St. Thomas Aquinas College to a 2-1 win over Pace University on Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader at Spartan Field. Pace won the second game, 3-0.

The split moved STAC's record to 19-17 while Pace goes to 19-9.

Clancy, who was named the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, evened her record at 9-9 with another very effective effort. The senior righthander recorded six strikeouts and teammates Raposo (center field) and Aliya Feerick (right field) backed her with good glove work.

The Spartans erased a 1-0 deficit when junior Amanda Demmerle scored on a fielder's choice. Raposo homered over the left field fence in the fourth inning to plate the deciding run.

In the second game, Pace pitcher Giselle Garcia struck out 11 batters and allowed two hits to increase her record to 10-2. She retired 11 batters in a row at one point.

STAC next travels to meet Queens College on Friday (April 12) in an ECC doubleheader scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
