STAC Reaches 20-Win Mark with Two Wins over Queens

Sparkill, N.Y. - St. Thomas Aquinas College reached the 20-win plateau for the fifth straight season with a pair of wins over Queens College on Monday in an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Spartan Field. STAC won by scores of 3-2 and 7-1.

STAC has won 20 games or more in five straight seasons, not including the 2020 campaign that was suspended due to the COVID health emergency. Today's wins also vaulted the Spartans into sole possession of first place in the ECC with a 9-1 record. They are now 21-17 overall. Queens fell to 11-18 and 5-5 in the ECC.

Sarah Clancy logged another strong pitching performance to lead STAC to the first-game victory. Freshman Olivia Leon delivered the eventual game-deciding runs with a two-run single to key a three-run rally in the third inning. Leon finished with two of the team's nine hits.

In the second game, sophomore Elyse Marcano led the offense with three hits including a two-run single. Freshman Jessica Feerick had a two-run single and senior Tara Hagan drove in a run with a single. Winning pitcher Eliana Raposo went 6.1 innings and got excellent defensive help from Aliya Feerick (right field) and Adriana Coira (shortstop).

STAC next visits Mercy University on Wednesday (April 17) in an ECC doubleheader that will begin at 2:30 p.m. across the Hudson River in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
