
St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball players Adriana Coira, Sarah Clancy and Sofia Marella were each selected for the East Coast Conference's weekly awards on Monday, following the Spartans 4-1 week, with victories over Dominican (4-0), Molloy (6-2) and Queens (8-0 & 7-3).
Coira was tabbed as the ECC Player of the Week, while Clancy took home Pitcher of the Week and Marella earned Rookie of the Week.
Coira (San Juan, Puerto Rico) helped the Spartans with a .455 (5-for-11) batting average and outstanding all-around play. The STAC junior scored five runs, drove in two RBI, stroked three doubles, and stole three bases. She was also walked twice and hit by a pitch three times en route to a .625 on base percentage to go with her .727 slugging clip on the week. Coira also played strong defense at shortstop.
Clancy (Chino Hills, Calif.) logged a 3-1 record with a 1.29 ERA in 21 2/3 innings of work on the week. The STAC lefty tossed a one-hit shutout against Dominican, 4-0, and also blanked Queens, 8-0. On the week, Clancy recorded 10 strikeouts with only two walks allowed while holding her opposition to a .169 batting average.
Marella (Cranston, R.I.) homered and drove in six runs on the week. The STAC freshman designated player batted .308 (4-for-13) in that span.
STAC (18-15, 6-2 ECC) returns to the friendly confines of Spartan Field on Thursday, April 10 for a conference doubleheader with the College of Staten Island. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
