
Pleasantville, N.Y. - Despite receiving three hits in four at-bats from Trinadey Santiago in game one and doubles from Elyse Marcano, Eliana Raposo and Jessica Feerick in game two, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team dropped both ends of a Wednesday road doubleheader at Pace University. The host Setters took 6-2 and 8-1 decisions over the Spartans.
STAC slips to 12-14 on the season, while Pace moves to 10-8.
Pace posted runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead in the opener, before STAC would get two back via a two-run single by Santiago, scoring both Maristella Coira and Elyse Marcano.
Sarah Clancy (L, 6-7) surrendered six runs on ten hits, with three walks over six innings of work in her 15th appearance of the year.
In game two, the Setters plated a run in the first inning, before STAC answered in the top of the second with an RBI single by Jordyn Gautier which brought home teammate Jessica Feerick to tie things at 1-1. Pace would then put up a four-spot in the bottom of the stanza along with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding lead.
Madison Puppolo (L, 6-5) dropped her second straight start by allowing eight runs (five earned) on ten hits, with three walks and two strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings. Alyssa Liguori was called upon from the bullpen to get the final out of the sixth inning.
The Spartans next head to Western New York for an ECC doubleheader with D'Youville University on Friday, March 28. Game one gets underway at noon at Dobson Field.
