Sprint Football Falls At Defending Champ Army West Point, 56-0

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The St. Thomas Aquinas College sprint football team suffered its first setback Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium, as the Spartans fell to host and defending Collegiate Sprint Football League champion Army West Point by a 56-0 score.

 
STAC (2-1) fell behind by three scores after one quarter of play against the Black Knights (3-0). The Spartans recovered a pair of first-half fumbles on defense, while Daniel Grossman and Daniel Scott each picked up one sack on the afternoon. Rafael Cruz was in on a game-best 10 tackles, while Will Smith led all players with 2.0 tackles for loss.
 
Jimmy English reeled in three receptions for 25 yards for STAC, and returned nine kickoffs for 186 yards -- including a career-best 57-yard scamper. 
 
Head coach Matt Barry's St. Thomas Aquinas side now has a rare two weeks off, before playing host to CSFL North Division foe Cornell University on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. from the Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillburn, NY.
